Under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), most employers must provide their employees with unpaid leave for health care reasons, to aid a family member or for the arrival of a new child. Both employers and employees have certain obligations under FMLA.

- When an employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition
